Long skirts have received another setback, and apparently a New York department store has ordered spring skirts with the skirts nine inches from the ground.

50 Years Ago: 1972

Those planning to attend the Greek Gala being held Nov. 18 as a benefit for the Portland Symphony Orchestra may make their reservations with Mrs. Jack O. Smith, Davis Ave., Auburn. She is being assisted by Mrs. Charles H. Abbott. The performance will feature Greek line dancing which is fun with or without a partner. The event will be held at the Martindale Country Club from 8 to midnight and music will be provided by a group from Biddeford. Special Greek hor ‘d’oeuvres will be served. General chairman is Mrs. Jere R. Clifford.

25 Years Ago: 1997

The staff in the administrative offices of the Auburn School Department decided that their building needed a little pick-me-up. During a recent coffee break, they planted some fall flowers at the entrance of Chamberlain School on High Street. Ellie Taylor, Rita Vachon, Carrie Beaulieu, Roz Walton, Diane Chamberlain and Diane Blais plan to expand the garden in the spring.
