DEAR SUN SPOTS: West Parish Congregational Church in Bethel has been given a beautiful dollhouse, all handmade and complete with furnishings. The woman who made it has passed away and her husband (who also worked on it) wants it to be sold and the proceeds given to the church. Can anyone in Sun Spots Land give us advice on how to go about this? — Lida, no town

ANSWER: Would you consider holding a raffle or silent auction? Perhaps the dollhouse could be the prize or you may get some interest from others in the congregation and community willing to donate goods and services to make it an event, with the dollhouse as the main draw. Of course, you would need a few folks to organize this.

Another idea would be to sell the dollhouse online.

Before you attempt either, you will want to do some investigating on how much the dollhouse is worth if the previous owner didn’t have it appraised recently. Is the dollhouse considered to be antique or vintage? The miniatures alone are most likely worth a tidy sum, let alone the value of the actual house.

I’m reaching out into Sun Spots Land to inquire if readers can offer appraisal help and/or ideas for making a profit on the house, or perhaps, with Christmas coming, another reader is interested in purchasing the dollhouse. You just never know!
