CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Kellen Tynes had 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists as the University of Maine men’s basketball team beat Boston College 69-65 on Monday night.

The win is UMaine’s first over a Power Five school since beating Penn State 74-64 on Dec. 21, 2010.

The Black Bears (2-1) earn their sixth win all time against the Eagles (1-2), who lead the series between the two schools 18-6.

Maine went on a 9-0 run in the first half to take a 29-18 lead with 5:10 left. Peter Filipovity scored seven points during that stretch and finished with 16 points. Ja’Shonte Wright-Mcleish added 12 points and Kristians Feierbergs had 11.

Makai Ashton-Langford scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Boston College. Jaeden Zackery added 13 points, while DeMarr Lanford Jr. had 10 points and T.J. Bickerstaff had 10 rebounds.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
UMASS 67, MAINE 54: The Minutewomen (2-1) held the Black Bears (1-1) scoreless in the second quarter on their way to a victory in Amherst, Massachusetts.

UMass outscored Maine 24-0 in the second quarter to take a 39-12 lead.

Sydney Taylor scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds for UMass. Angelique Ngalakulondi had 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Sam Breen had 11 points and 10 boards.

Olivia Rockwood had 15 points for Maine.

MEN’S SOCCER
BERKELEY 2, CMCC 1: The Mustangs’ (11-2-2) season came to a close with a loss to Berkeley (New Jersey) in pool play at the USCAA Division II National Championship tournament on Sunday.

Isidoro Domingues scored the equalizer for Central Maine Community College in the 73rd minute, but Esteban Pedrueza’s goal 12 minutes later regained the lead, which held up and earned the Knights (16-6-1) a spot in the national title game.

Erson Gerbeshi gave Berkeley the lead with an unassisted goal nine minutes into the game.
