Vickie Rogers, center, gives Buffy Nason a hug Wednesday as Nason and her husband, Dick, sit down for a Thanksgiving meal at the Community Hall in Otisfield. The Otisfield Social Outreach Committee has held a Thanksgiving luncheon on the third Wednesday of November every year since 2011, except for 2020. “We realized that we live in such a rural area that people did not have many chances to get to know each other,” said event co-founder Elaine Doble-Verrill. About 15 volunteers helped cook Tuesday and 20 volunteers helped with Wednesday’s meal. Rogers was one of those who helped during prior events. “I used to be the tray washer. But now I am too old,” said 80-year-old Rogers. Daryn Slover/Sun Journal
