Mt. Blue Voices is a group of kids at the high school who love to sing. So much so that they sing after school and on weekends. They learn and practice music at home, and they brave auditioning against 50 other kids to get one of 14 coveted spots in the small, extracurricular choral group, in its third year at Mt. Blue High School. Mt. Blue Voices is developing a growing reputation for the quality of its performances. The group received superior ratings, the top category, at the state Vocal Jazz Festival and the Solo and Ensemble Festival last year.

The group has sung twice in the rotunda at the capitol in Augusta, at various community events, and recently at a board meeting for SAD 9 directors. They impressed the board enough that there was no hesitation in approving the group’s most ambitious performance plan for these kids to travel to Disney World next to sing as professional entertainers. “It’s a big honor that people believe we’re good enough to undertake a trip like that,” said Kate Frederic, a senior who has been in Mount Blue Voices since it began in 1995.

Sara Miller said she is excited at the at the prospect of being treated like a professional at Disney World  and bass Derrick Buschmann agreed.

The material used in Looking Back is produced exactly as it originally appeared although misspellings and errors may be corrected.
