Theresa Bernier
LEWISTON – Theresa Bernier, 95, of Lewiston, died of congestive heart failure on Nov. 17, 2022 following a brief stay at Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn.
She was born in Lewiston on Oct. 16, 1927, one of 12 children of Lorenzo and Dora (Jutras) Cloutier. On May 22, 1948, she married Raymond Bernier and raised seven children. Theresa was educated in Lewiston schools.
During her life she was employed by Bates Mill, Bert’s restaurant as a hostess, Billing Shoe, and Acorn Mfg. She was a hard worker who found the strength and courage to raise a family after the death of her husband, Raymond, in 1976.
She looked forward to family gatherings with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved country music, especially Alan Jackson songs. She enjoyed working on puzzles and a daily routine of a mid-morning break of coffee and donuts. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, cards, reading, and senior trips with family and friends, always ready to take photos of all her adventures. Theresa was truly a wonderful family role model and lived her life to the fullest. She was a member of the Auburn Seniors and a volunteer at Good Shepherd Food Bank for several years.
She is survived by four daughters Lucille Zaleski and husband Edward, Pauline Plourde and husband Richard, Diane Gilpatrick and husband Frank, Doris Nadeau, and a son, Roger Bernier and wife Penny. She was blessed with 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Georgette Turcotte and Lorraine Packard.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond; daughter, Louise, son-in-law, Bertrand, and son, Robert. She was also predeceased by three brothers and seven sisters.
She will always be remembered with a heart warming smile.
The family wishes to thank the many medical professionals who cared for her during her later years.
A memorial visitation FORTIN/Auburn for Theresa will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The Fortin Group, 217 Turner St., Auburn, ME 04210, followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m.
