100 Years Ago: 1922

The Webster grammar school is to be thoroughly fumigated; the students being dismissed for this purpose yesterday afternoon. The desks and floors and the walls up six feet, or so will be carefully gone over with a disinfectant, removing all chances of any possible contagion from scarlet fever.

50 Years Ago: 1972

(from a Journal photo) Indoors or out, holiday greens say welcome to every guest. Such decorations will be offered for sale at the Woman’s Literary Union Christmas Fair, “Our Winter Wonderland,” to be held at the Elm Street Clubhouse, Tuesday Dec. 5 beginning at 10 o’clock. A luncheon will be served at noon.

25 Years Ago: 1997

More than 100 Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts will work toward their career goals from 5:30 to 10 pm. Friday and 8 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Central Maine Technical College in Auburn. “Dare to Dream” is a weekend of career exploration, skill building and fun for older Girl Scouts in grades seven and higher. A wide range of workshops designed for today’s young women are planned. Workshops include autocare, robotics, telephone skills, self-defense and team building. “These programs are wonderful opportunities to help teen-age Girl Scouts ‘Dare to Dream’ about future possibilities,” said Kennebec Girl Scout executive director Joan McDonald.
