100 Years Ago: 1922

A baby clinic was held today in the Congregational Parish House under the management of Miss Clyde Ricker. She was assisted by Dr. E. B. Holden and Mrs. Sherman Grant. Mrs. Richard Tyner had charge of the preparations in Welchville and Mrs. George Wood in Oxford.

50 Years Ago: 1972

(Journal photo) These students at Auburn’s Central School have been involved in an art project related to the Thanksgiving observance. The handsome turkeys fashioned of beans and seeds, colored with dyes in some cases, are glued to plaques. The artists are Jeff Michaud, Camille Bernard and Jean Theriault. Their classroom teacher Mrs. Vesta Rand supervised the work.

The Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce will honor 1997 Adopt-A-Spot sponsors when it holds Business After Hours at Lost Valley Ski Area from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11. Nearly 50 local companies, professional groups and nonprofit organizations participated this year in Adopt-A-Spot, planting public gardens on municipally owned land in high visibility areas.

Lost Valley is celebrating its 37th season as a winter recreational facility. The chamber event will feature a live snowmaking demonstration, paint-ball target shooting match, Joe Jones Ski Shop display and information on the Sam’s Mountain Dew race.

There will be a cash bar and free hors d’oeuvres by Chef Steve. More than $1,500 in door prizes will be offered, including a Lost Valley season pass, other passes, tickets, free lessons and logo vests.
