Gordon Grant chats with the mother of a student Wednesday in front of Walton Elementary School in Auburn. Grant said he has gotten to know a few parents since working as a crossing guard at Mary Carroll and 5th streets 11 years ago. “I have only had troubles with one parent in all the years I have been here. That’s pretty good,” the 1961 graduate of Edward Little High School said. The 79-year-old said he has no plans to retire anytime soon. “I’m going to stay here as long as I possibly can,” he said.
