DEAR SUN SPOTS: Last year I wrote to Sun Spots about the work being done by Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends. This past year several of the habitats and feeders were destroyed by high winds and trees falling on them. They are being repaired.

Rose is still dealing with the loss of her partner, Norm Blais, and the loss of the small building they used to shelter and keep cats warm after they have been spayed and neutered. After a few days of recuperation she then takes them to one of her facilities in the wild that she maintains. Many of these cats were house cats at one time who have just been let loose due to the owners moving or passing away.

Rose is in need of donations for food and vet bills and for a small garage or building she can use to house the cats following their spay and neuter procedure.

Rooper’s Redemption Centers has graciously agreed to accept bottles at all their locations for us. Just let them know that your donation is to go to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends Fund.

Donations by check can be made directly to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends, P.O. Box 274, Greene, ME. 04230. Thank you for all you have done to help support Tommy’s Feral Felines. — John, Lewiston

ANSWER: My heart goes out to Rose and all the kitties. Readers, you will see this message from John time to time as a reminder that the cats are still out there needing to be cared for.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Since you have been known to answer anything, I was wondering if you could help me find someone who would be able to find the end of a French drain that has “disappeared” in my yard. I’m sick of having a flooded basement when it rains hard. —Betty, Lewiston

ANSWER: Unfortunately, over time these drainage systems can sink, freeze up, become clogged with roots, soil, leaves and debris, and collapse, crack or break. What a pain! Do you have any paperwork regarding the contractor who built the house or put the system in originally?

Powell & Sons (https://powellandsons.com/) should be able to help you. There is an email form on the website to ask for a quote.

It’s also possible that you may need an interior drainage system for your basement. TC Hafford Basement Systems is a company I have in the Rolodex. (https://www.tchaffordbasementsystems.com/, phone: 230-6570.)
