MaineHousing has launched a new online application for the Home Energy Assistance Program.

The online portal lets people start the application process remotely while sending their application information directly to the local community action agency that will verify and process the application. It also allows applicants to check to see if they are income eligible before applying for the program, according to a news release from Shiloh LaFreniere, Jay town manager.

Applicants who have already scheduled an appointment with their local community action agency should not use the online portal this season. Doing so would actually end up slowing down the process.

To access the portal, visit mainehousing.org.
