Shawn Michael Pomerleau

DAPHNE, Ala. – Shawn Michael Pomerleau was born on Sept. 30, 1977, in Bridgton, Maine. He was taken from us on Nov. 30, 2022, when he passed unexpectedly. In between, he lived a life greater than words can describe.

Shawn grew up in Waterford, Maine, with his parents and four siblings. He was the middle child and was the perfect combination of mature and mischievous. He played multiple sports all through childhood and high school, attending Oxford Hills High School in South Paris, Maine and White Mountain High School in Whitefield, N.H.

After high school, he started working in the pipeline industry. He spent over 25 years working all aspects of pipeline construction, eventually becoming a Project Manager. He spent much of his career at Latex Construction, based in Conyers, Ga. He also worked for Michels Pipeline Corporation, Sterling Construction Company, H.C. Price Co. (Price Gregory), and Welded Construction Company.

He spent time building and painting houses. He was especially proud of the work he did at the Teen Center in Oxford, Maine providing in-home support for special needs adults and children.

Shawn spent time working on a project in central Alabama in 2014, where he met his best friend and partner in life, Bethany. Over the following years, he made South Alabama his home with her and his two stepsons, George and Bentley. He put his entire heart into his family. Bethany and Shawn were a perfect match. They had the best times together whether exploring new places he was working or sitting on the back porch at home grilling out for so many hours. He taught the boys how to play every sport he could think of. He most recently helped George practice kicking in football, and he loved playing basketball with Bentley. He took them to school, picked them up and helped them with homework. He loved them so much, and he was so loved.

He traveled often for work, living all over the country from North Carolina to Montana, California, Wyoming, Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin, Louisiana and more. He had friends everywhere along the way. He underestimated the impression he made on people. There are so many stories from so many years, jobs and friendships. After all the traveling, we are so grateful he got to spend this past year at home.

Shawn treasured his family in Alabama and in Maine. He loved keeping in touch with them and so many close friends. Everyone that met Shawn and spent time with him knows that he was a one-of-a-kind, awesome man. He was simply the best. We will never be the same without him.

Shawn is survived by Bethany Johnson, George Gounares and Bentley Gounares; his mother and stepfather, Marcia and Dale McAllister, his father, Michael Pomerleau and wife Althea; siblings Christopher Pomerleau and wife Lisa, Melissa Pomerleau, Brian Pomerleau, Brandon Pomerleau and wife Halyne, Mason Pomerleau, stepsisters Katie McAllister and Kristina Wilson;
nieces Taylor Cantone, Brittany Pomerleau, Makenna Pomerleau and Ruby Pomerleau, nephew Nick Pomerleau; mother-in-law and father-in-law Lisa and Jacky Johnson; and countless friends.
