LEWISTON – Arthur C. Raymond, 89, of Lewiston passed away on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022 following a brief illness.

Born in Lewiston April 25, 1933, the son of the late Antoinette Levasseur (Sirois) and Arthur C. Raymond Sr., stepfather Marcel Levasseur.

Arthur graduated from St. Peters and Paul school in 1948 and was a graduate of St. Dominic High School in 1952. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the Army and was sent to Stuttgart, Germany, where he served as an intelligence analyst and received top secret clearance with the 7th Corps Artillery. He was honorably discharged in 1957. This is when his love for this country and unwavering support for veterans ignited and remained steadfast throughout his entire life. The support and dedication this man exhibited throughout his life was that of a very proud American.

From 1957-1974 he was employed at Bauer Hardware until the liquidation of the company. In 1974, he ran for the State of Maine House of Representatives where he served two terms. He was assigned to various committees including Human Resources, Liquor Control and Election Laws.

He served on the Lewiston Planning Board, Health and Welfare Board, Chairman of the Multi-Purpose Center Committee and served on the U.S Bicentennial Commission. Arthur was very involved with various Snowshoe organizations as well as the Pine Tree Warriors Drum and Bugle Core. Other notably appointments included: Secretary/Treasurer International Snowshoe Committee, President of the American Snowshoe Union, President and Secretary of the State of Maine Snowshoe Union, President of the Richelieu International of Lewiston/Auburn, President of the Pine Tree Warriors and President and Lifetime member of the Club Passe-Temps. He was the sponsor of a bill that changed the Pine Tree Warriors name to “Maine Marching Ambassadors”.

Arthur devoted his life to serving our country, our state and our community. He’s received many accolades and accreditations for his unrelenting support of our veterans and veteran affairs.

He was the kindest, most selfless person with a heart of gold. If you were blessed to have this man in your life, then you understand the unwavering love he had for us all. There will never be another “Uncle Arthur”.

Over the years, he has never skipped a beat in promptly sending out birthday and Christmas cards (in stacks) to relatives, life-long friends and new friends. We will miss your cards, Uncle Arthur. He lived a very discreet and humble life that allowed him to give and help others. We are all saddened by his passing and our family is enriched because he touched each one of us with his loving heart and kind soul. Rest in peace Uncle Arthur. Knowing that you are reunited with your mom, sister, brother and loved ones, brings a sense of comfort during this difficult time.
