NORWAY — Voters at a special town meeting Thursday approved spending up to $75,000 for a generator to power the Fire Station and Town Office in emergencies.
Earlier this year, the town received a matching grant of $66,600 from the Maine Emergency Management Agency for a generator. The money approved Thursday will come from the undesignated unrestricted fund balance and go toward the required match.
The generator will allow the Fire Station and Town Office to be used as a warming/cooling station during an emergency.

At the Select Board meeting later, members accepted an anonymous $1,000 donation toward the generator.
In other business, members agreed to apply for an Efficiency Maine grant to pay for installing six networked ChargePoint CT4000 electric charging stations. According to the proposal, the town is seeing more demand for the stations. The project will not cost the town any money and it will switch its current electrical costs to station users.
The town has three nonnetworked stations at the Deering Street parking lot.
Of the six new ones, two each will be placed at the parking lots at Deering Street, Water Street and Whitman Street.
The board also approved a Central Maine Power pole permit on Wiley Road.
The Town Office will close at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, for an office party.
