BUCKFIELD — The Select Board on Tuesday approved a license for the town’s first marijuana retail store.
Back Road Buds plans to open next year at 10 Turner St., across from Tilton’s Market. The Planning Board had previously approved the store’s application.
In other business, the board approved a 10-year financing plan with Androscoggin Bank for a lease-purchase of an upgraded and refurbished 2005 firetruck. It cost more than $213,000 and is from Greenwood Emergency Vehicles from North Attleboro, Massachusetts.
In another finance matter, after conferring with the Maine Municipal Association the board rescinded its vote last meeting that authorized paying tax abatements with emergency contingency funds.
The town had set aside $20,000 in the tax overlay account, but abatements totaled $38,000.
At this year’s town meeting, voters authorized that tax abatements could be paid from the tax overlay account and, if necessary, the unassigned fund balance.
Being able to avoid using the emergency fund, the board approved spending the $18,000 shortfall from the undesignated fund balance.
The board appointed Selectman Janet Iveson to work with resident Vivian Wadas, who volunteered to work on an Efficiency Maine Small Municipality Retrofit grant for upgrades to heating, lighting, cooling and refrigeration systems. The program is designed for towns with populations below 5,000.
Chairman Michael Iveson, Azalea Cormier and Robert Hand attended Tuesday’s meeting. Janet Iveson and Sandra Fickett were absent.
