Clara Read Dumas
AUBURN – Clara Read Dumas, 89, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022. She was born Feb. 27, 1933 in Lewiston to Ralston Stephen and Ina (Shannon) Read. She grew up in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School.
Clara married Robert G. Dumas on May 19, 1953. She and Bob moved to Marston Street, Auburn in 1955 where she lived until her death. Clara was a cheerleader all through high school and then was a homemaker most of her married life. She and Bob enjoyed Marston Street neighborhood activities as well as bridge, golf and family camping trips. Clara was a founding member of the Piggley Wiggley Club which gathered daily for many years for coffee and Friday night dinners. She and Bob also enjoyed numerous activities after acquiring her grandfather’s camp on Kennebago River. She later served as an officer of the Kennebago Camp Owners Association. In her later years Clara was an active member of the Red Hatters, worked as a Bookkeeper and enjoyed her expanding family. She was a life long knitter and shared her talents with others. She stayed close to many friends throughout her life and was particularly proud of her family and their accomplishments.
She is survived by her three children, Judith Walker of Poland, James and wife Jennifer Dumas of Lewiston, Jayne and husband Robert Brainerd of Lewiston; her five grandchildren, Ryan and wife Betsy Walker of Auburn, Evan Walker and companion Jeanne Dudley of Gray, Jake Dumas of Washington DC, Jared Dumas of Portland, Jazlyn Dumas of Waterville; her two great-grandchildren, Ellis and Wilson Walker of Auburn. She was predeceased by her parents Ralston and Ina Read; her husband of 36 years Bob Dumas, her two sisters and their husbands, June and Dick Dyer, Alice and Walter Burpee; and her son-in-law Timothy Walker. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held in the Spring at Mt Auburn Cemetery in Auburn.
