Each year coaches around Maine vote for State and Regional All-Star Teams and those players selected are honored at the annual Maine Coaches All-Star Banquet in December.

East/West Conference includes schools from Richmond, Vinal Haven, Valley, and Temple.

This year, in soccer, Rangeley Lakes Regional School all-star boys included Tucker Beaulieau, and Anthony Whittier.

For girls, all-star’s soccer included Bree (aka Breezy) Quimby, Lily Shafer, and Mimi Stokes.

Golf all-stars from Rangeley Lakes Regional School included Trevor Dolbier and Tucker MacFawn and for girls, Isabelle Whittier.

As an additional honor, coaches selected Breezy Quimby as female soccer player of the year.

Breezy has been playing organized soccer since she was 8 years old. When asked what she likes about the sport, she said she likes “Being physically active and the camaraderie of working with my teammates.” While soccer is her favorite sport, she also loves ski racing and softball. Breezy is well rounded and enjoys other activities as well. “I love animals, especially cats and birds, and little kids. I spend my time doing homework, playing sports, and working at the OG. I also love to spend time with my boyfriend Keaton and best friend Mimi.”

Coach Jeff Hawksley (aka Hawk) had this to say about Bree. “Being voted the “best player of the year” by the coaches’ of the conference is a terrific honor and I know Bree is proud of that, but you will never be able to tell. She is not only one of the best athletes I have coached but also one of the most humble. Bree plays because she loves the game. She works hard and appreciates whatever comes her way.

As for Bree, I asked her what advice she might give to less experienced players and she said, “Always listen to your coach!” She added, “Hawk has been my soccer and ski coach since I was in elementary school. He has always supported me and pushed me to reach new skill levels. I’m very grateful that he believes in me.

Trevor Dolbier also had the honor of being chosen as player of the year for golf.

Trevor has been playing golf competitively for about 6 years but says he didn’t start taking it seriously until 7th grade. “Golf is definitely my favorite sport and my best sport, I just find it so much fun. The thing I love about golf most is I can play on my own and don’t have to worry about having other people to play the game.

Former coach Tim Straub said of Dolbier, “he is a dedicated player and will be a lifetime competitor.

Considering it is sometimes difficult to facilitate sports activities I asked Coach Hawksley if he could comment on the importance of sports. He said this, “Sports require a great deal of time commitment. For some, sports are the most important part of a student’s life and help keep them motivated to keep grades up and behavior appropriate. Sports teaches many life lessons, but kids don’t play for those reasons. They play because they like being with their teammates, and it is fun. Bottom line sports are fun! Or should be. That certainly does not mean that hard work is not required along the way. But for some the hard work of practice and training is the price happily paid for the feeling of accomplishment, of getting better at something and being part of a team.

Congratulations to all of you all-stars and to anyone who has found a gratifying love of sports!
