POLAND — Fire crews from six towns responded to a garage fire at 150 Brown Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Poland Fire Rescue Chief Thomas Printup said the single-family residence was untouched by a fire that started by a wood stove in the corner of a detached garage on the property. The fire burned up the wall, through the ceiling and into the attic, he said.

The building, while not a total loss, sustained heavy water damage and roof damage from holes made to ventilate the building. Many tools and equipment were left untouched by flames, but not to water.

“With temperatures like they are, it’s certainly going to freeze tonight, so they’re certainly going to have some cleaning up to do,” Printup said, “but we had no injuries for civilians or firefighters which was good.”

Auburn, Casco, Mechanic Falls, Oxford and Raymond crews assisted Poland’s Fire Rescue Department.
