MINOT — Town officials Tuesday evening approved the liquor license renewal for the Maine Wedding Barn and Event Center.

Selectmen voted to allow the seasonal facility to continue serving liquor for another year, according to town Administrator Danielle Loring.

A local resident told board members Tuesday night that she had reached out to the Maine Department of Transportation to find out what measures could be taken to improve safety at the intersection of Harris and Center Minot Hill roads. The MDOT told her they would recommend erecting a convex mirror to improve visibility, but said it was not something they were able to do themselves, Loring said.

The resident asked local officials whether they would be able to take that action. She was told that the town would approach state officials to find out whether it would be able to trim tree branches at the intersection to improve visibility.

It was decided the town would reach out to the state to see what the full range of mitigation steps it might be able to take, including the possibility of reengineering that intersection, Loring said.

She said she planned to get traffic counts of that intersection from Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments as well as crash data from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office to assess the safety of that area.

Local officials Tuesday also named a Minot resident to serve on the selection committee for a new Regional School Unit 16 superintendent. Of the three people who had expressed interest in that position, board members chose Aubrey Russell-Sweatt, Loring said.

Also on Tuesday, local officials applied for a loan of just under $100,000 to go toward the purchase of a new plow truck, Loring said. The two-year loan carries an interest rate of just under 5%, she said. Voters in March approved the purchase. The total cost is $156,947. Delivery is expected in April.
