John Bertrand Jalbert
AUBURN – On Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022, John Bertrand Jalbert, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 80 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
John was born on Feb. 23, 1942 in Lewiston to John and Cecile (Nadeau) Jalbert.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass. After graduating college, he taught Science at Erskine Academy in South China where he would meet Maryann Kus, a fellow teacher. John and Maryann would be married in June of 1968 and go on to raise two sons, Thomas and Gregory, while John worked as a chemist at Pioneer Plastics in Auburn for over 30 years.
As is common in families of the Lewiston-Auburn area, hockey was a tradition in the Jalbert family. Following in the footsteps of his father, John and his brothers Roland, Bertrand and Micheal, were skilled hockey players. This was only made possible by their older sister, Jeannine, who dutifully performed the role of the family goaltender. The tradition continued through to his sons and now with his grandson. John would play high school hockey for the St. Dom’s Saints where he was the captain of the 1960 state championship team. His skills would later earn him a scholarship to play at the collegiate level.
Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 26 West Dwinal St., Mechanic Falls. Online condolences may be shared with his family at http://www.chandlerfunerals.com
