POLAND — Investigators on Tuesday identified the driver who died Monday morning in a crash on Harris Hill Road as Gary D. Hesketh, 41, of Oxford.
Hesketh’s vehicle struck the back of a tractor-trailer stopped beside the road by Ricky Seames, 71, of South Paris.
Seames and area residents freed Hesketh from his vehicle, which had caught fire. Hesketh died at the scene from his injuries. No one else was injured, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
County deputies and Poland Fire Rescue Department responded to the 7:40 a.m. call and closed Harris Hill and Hackett Mills roads for hours for a preliminary investigation.
The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit responded as is protocal in fatalities involving commercial vehicles.
The crash is being reconstructed by the Sheriff’s Office.
