WEST PARIS — Let us look forward with positive thoughts and actions in 2023. Being in community can help us in troubling yet hopeful times. All are welcome to join in at the First Universalist Church of West Paris, Sundays at 9 a.m. Music is performed by Tom Coolidge.

January 8, “Practically Perfect” led by guest speaker, Cynthia Reedy. At the door of my father’s company, there was a sign that read, “Welcome to Cordell Engineering, where ‘good enough’ isn’t” but we are humans and not machines. Perhaps in our lives, we need to more often recognize that we are “good enough” and that “practically perfect” is a pretty wonderful thing.

January 15 “When Evil Confronts Us” led by The Rev. Fayre Stephenson. If we define evil as “that which divides us,” on this Sunday, as we honor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we will consider our slow journey to understand how deeply racism enters our own lives and how it affects us all.

January 22, “Hope and Joy”, led by guest speaker, Rodney Abbott. There is hope and joy in the midst of all the turmoil and confusion which seems about to overwhelm us.

January 29, “American Grace” led by The Rev. Fayre Stephenson. Using Robert Putnam’s book, American Grace, as our guide, at this service we will explore how, in this time of liberal and conservative polarization, at the same time interfaith ties are strengthening on a personal level. Despite the “culture wars,” surprisingly, our nation is experiencing a time of greater interfaith tolerance.
