Jeri Brooks Greenwell
BETHEL – Jeri Brooks Greenwell, 67, of Titusville, Fla., winters, and Bethel, Maine, summers, passed away on Dec. 31, 2022, after complications following a scheduled surgery.
Jeri was born at Rumford Community Hospital to Dana and Carolyn (Lane) Brooks on Jan. 29, 1955. Dana passed Dec. 7, 1996, and Carolyn on April 7, 2003.
Jeri married Jerry A. Greenwell on April 15, 1990. She was predeceased by Jerry in 2012 and their son, Jerry Allen in 2003.
Survivors include Michele Conde (Jesse) and two granddaughters, Danielle and Nicole (Chesapeake, Va.); Robert Greenwell (Brunswick); brother, Jack and his significant other, Virginia Emmons (Florida and Maine); two nephews, Christopher (Leah) and child Sebastian; and Travis (Justine) and children, Chase and Hayden; one niece, Ashley Brooks; a special Aunt, Eleanor Brooks (Bethel) and several cousins.
Jeri graduated from Telstar High in the class of 1972 and Husson University in 1974. Employment included National Training Laboratories (Bethel), Percy’s Restaurant (Bridgton), Andover College and Aetna Insurance Company (Portland), and until retirement Jeri was former co-owner of Brooks Bros. Inc, a third-generation family business in Bethel.
Jeri was an active member of the community and was elected to many leadership positions to include: the American Legion Auxiliary – Past National Chaplain (2007-2008); Past Eastern Division National Vice President (1986-1987); Past Department President (1983-1984); Second District President (1979-1980); Oxford County Council President (1978-79) and Mundt-Allen Unit #81 President (1975-76, 1981-82, and 2006-2011); also served on countless Department and National Committees. In addition to her American Legion work, she also contributed to other community organizations, to include: Charter Member, The American Legion Riders Post #67, member of VFW Post 4228 Auxiliary and Spaceport #3581 Fraternal Order of Eagles and Eagles Riders all in Titusville, Florida, two-time Past Grande President of the La Société de Femme, National Spokesperson for National Meningitis Association and member of its National Advisory Committee, member of the Maine Adaptive Sports, Veterans No Boundaries Committee, retired board member of Maine 4H Foundation, retired member of School Administrative #44 Board of Directors serving two terms, former member of the Bethel Board of Appeals and Community Safety and Law Enforcement Committee, Life Member of the Bethel Historical Society, and a former Literacy Volunteer.
Jeri was awarded many special recognitions, to include: The 2018 Henry H. Hastings Citizenship Award from the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce, the 2016 Outstanding Service Award from The American Legion, Department of Maine, the 2016 Maine CDC Childhood Immunization Champion Award, the George Washington Medal of Honor from Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge, PA, the Joint Resolution from the State Legislature for service to Veterans, Youth, the Disadvantaged, and the community, the 2012 National Meningitis Association – MOMs Award, and the Maine National Guard Family Readiness Award.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday May 20, 2023, at the West Parish Congregational Church in Bethel. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Bethel. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford.
In lieu of flowers, those who desire may contribute to the ASPCA or to the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation in her memory.
