William C. “Bill” Thurston

ANDOVER – William C. “Bill” Thurston, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at his residence on Main Street in Andover.

Born in Harrisburg, Pa., on Jan. 16, 1933, he was a son of Lester R. and Eva Claire (Snell) Thurston. Bill was a graduate of John Harris High School in Harrisburg, Pa., class of 1950. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at a Nike Anti-Aircraft Unit in Pittsburgh, Pa. After discharge he attended and graduated from University of Maine at Orono class of 1958. He went to work for Kemper Insurance in Boston and finished his 37 years career in 1995 after holding a number of positions.

Bill had a great love of Maine and especially Andover and Roxbury Pond so much so that he and his wife retired in Andover. This enabled him to enjoy fly fishing, sailing, kayaking, hiking, photography and nature. He was a member of the Andover Congregational Church and the Bethel VFW Post #81.

He was married in Weston, Mass., on Nov. 24, 1954, to Patricia Janet Merrill who survives of Andover. Other survivors include his daughter Debra Hodsdon and husband Keith of Norway, Maine, a son William of Milford, Mass., and daughter Diane Mahan and husband Timothy of Groton, Mass., seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Lester Thurston, Jr. Friends and family are invited to share memories with the family at http://www.meaderandson.com. A Graveside service will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Andover, on July 2, at 1 p.m.
