Denny Breau and Carol Noonan with Duke Levine and Kevin Barry will take the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Stone Mountain Arts Center, 695 Dugway Road, in Brownfield
Breau has played with Levine and Barry for many years and many records including my Rounder recordings and indie albums. He is a triple threat: a consummate picker, evocative songwriter, and a singer. He first draws in an audience with a finely arranged melody and then slides into scorching fingerwork that sets ears aflame. The fast guitar lines are balanced with those that wrap around his carefully crafted songs. He mixes genres with ease — folk, Delta blues, country and jazz.
Barry and Levine have played with Noonan for decades while racking up an impressive list of artists whom they have so aptly backed up. Recently Levine can be seen on tour with Bonnie Rait’s band, and Barry with Jackson Browne’s. Other greats to their resume are Mary Chapin Carpenter, Peter Wolf, Ray LaMontagne, and many more.
Noonan is an American folk singer/songwriter from Maine. She began her career as the lead singer and songwriter for the band Knots and Crosses. They built a significant following around Boston and the New England area. After a major-label bidding war led to a failed deal with Island Records, the group disbanded. Noonan went on to do three solo albums for the Philo/Rounder label through 1997. The “Carol Noonan Band” featured Levine and Barry on guitars. They have stayed with her for most of her live performances over the years as well as all her albums.
Proceeds will benefit Mountain Top Music Center.
Tickets cost $40. For tickets, or more information, visit stonemountainartscenter.com.
