Lewiston-Auburn Senior College is set to host lifelong Maine resident Melissa Record as its next Food for Thought speaker at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25.

The talk takes place in Room 170 at the Westminster St. campus of the University of Southern Maine in Lewiston. The program also can be attended via Zoom.

Record has worked in financial services for 30 years, for several community banks and for a local student loan servicer. For the past 12 years, she has been employed by Auburn Savings Bank, , according to a news release from Diane Clay, Senior College Board.

Record’s responsibilities have included the loan and deposit servicing area of the bank, Bank Secrecy Act responsibilities, and overall bank compliance. This role has given her an opportunity to see many of the ways that fraudsters operate. It has also given her a chance to intervene on her customers’ behalf to stop fraud from happening.

Record’s presentation will cover some of the common types of fraud that have been circulating for years along with some new variations. She will share some common tactics that scammers use and what red flags might tip one off that they’re about to be scammed.

One certainly doesn’t have to be a senior to be worried about these risks; this program will be open to the public of all ages.

To receive a link to attend via Zoom, email laseniorcollege@gmail.com. Mention the name of the program and provide your name in the email and a link will be emailed before it’s time to sign in.
