Margaret “Peggy” Kubach Wight
NEWRY – Margaret “Peggy” Kubach Wight, 80, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, surrounded by her family at Central Maine Medical Center. She was born on Nov. 7, 1942, to John and Helen (Mochrie) Kubach.
She married Stephen (Steve) William Wight on August 14, 1965. They moved to Newry with their young family in 1971 when they purchased the Sunday River Inn. Over the following years, they expanded the inn business, adding a cross-country ski center. In addition to running the Inn, Peggy immersed herself in community volunteerism, especially with the school board, Bethel Library, Bethel Historical Society, and West Parish Congregational Church. While not one to seek the limelight, she was a true pillar of the Bethel area community.
Peggy enjoyed gardening, reading, blue wax ski days, and relaxing at the family camp on North Pond. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family, especially on the dock at camp in the sun or gathered at the Red House.
Peggy is survived by her husband Steve; their children, Keith and his wife Cindi, Eric Boyle-Wight and his wife Patricia, Sara and her husband Michael Valentine; and their grandchildren Josh, Molly, Emily, Carla, and Gaelan.
