Margaret Nichols of Lewiston has been named recipient of the Volunteer of the Year 1997 Award as announced by the staff and board of trustees of Maine Public Broadcasting Corp.

“Margaret has been a volunteer for public television for over 20 years,” said Pam Smart, MPBC’s volunteer coordinator. “Margaret generously donated more than 625 hours of her time to us during the past 12 months. While most of her time was spent working on the Great TV Auction, she also answered telephones, helped with bulk mailings and filled in anywhere else she was needed. We are very fortunate and grateful to be the beneficiary of her energy and enthusiasm.”

The Volunteer of the Year Award, beginning with the 1997 honor, will be determined at the end of each calendar year and will be presented to a volunteer whose efforts are extraordinary in assisting MPBC to carry out its mission. Criteria for selection includes leadership, hours donated, reliability, enthusiasm and commitment.
