Vernon Russell Vincent

WATERFORD – Vernon Russell Vincent, 97, died Jan. 25, 2023, at his home in Waterford. He was born in Oneonta, N.Y. on Oct. 17, 1925, the son of George R. and Ida May (Crandall) Vincent.

Vernon attended Schools in the Oneota area. After graduating he joined the United States Navy, serving in both WW II and the Korean War. In WW II he served aboard the Nehenta Bay Aircraft Carrier and during the Korean Conflict he served Brooklyn Navy Yard. On March 8, 1947, Vernon married Janet Scammon, and they spent the next 42 years together until her death on Nov. 17, 1989.

Vernon was a member of the VFW Post 9787 and American Legion Post 86 both of South Paris. Escort Sailors Association, Boy Scouts of America in Massapequa N.Y., and Waterford. Waterford Fish and Game, and a life member of the NRA. He enjoyed Shooting, Hunting, he was an outs doorman liking to watch nature. He loved his family especially his kids.

Vernon is survived by his children, Russell Brewster Vincent and his wife Judy, John Crandall Vincent and his wife Judy, James Raymond Vincent and his wife Della, Susan Hope White, Timothy George Vincent and his wife Rhonda, and Rodney Lawrence Vincent; his sister, Sondra Morano; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Janet, his fiancée Mary Judd; his grandson John Christopher Vincent; brother Jack Merrit Vincent; mother and father in-law Raymond Brewster, and Lillian Viola Scammon.
