Muriel “June” Roy

SOUTH PARIS – Muriel “June” Roy, 90, passed away on Jan. 30, 2023, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris with her loving family by her side. She was born March 9, 1932, in South Paris a daughter of the late Raymond and Carrie (Moore) Edmunds.

June attended and graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1950. In 1951 she married Frank Culbert of South Paris. They made their home in Welchville with their four children, Pam, Tom, Anita and Mike. They both worked for Robinson’s Woolen Mill in Oxford until the passing of her husband Frank in 1967.

She later went on to marry Joseph A. W. Roy of Lewiston and together they had one son Joseph P. Roy. They lived in Welchville for another five years and then moved to Auburn where they both worked at Bonon Footwear. After their retirements they moved to Norway and made their home there until Joe’s passing in 2000. She then in 2005 moved to Gorham and lived with her companion Leland Plumley until her declining health and moved to The Maine Veterans Home in South Paris in December of 2021.

June was always an active woman and loved to travel. She also loved her flowers, the birds, taking walks and fishing. Before moving to Gorham she had worked at Cooper Farms in West Paris packing apples with some of her greatest friends. Those girls had quite a time working together and maybe raising a little hell. Because of her love of birds, especially hummingbirds, she got her one and only tattoo at the ripe old age of 75.

She also loved a cold bud light every now and then and got to enjoy her last cold one this past Christmas with family and friends.

She will be very much missed. We hope your having a cold one Ma, and maybe doing a little fishing with all the old gang.

June is survived by her children Tom Culbert of Auburn, Anita Varney and Randy of Oxford, Mike Culbert and Paula of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Joe Roy of Norway. Five grandchildren, Heather Wyman and Brent of Poland, Travis Wagner of Westbrook, Hope Davenport and James of Georgetown, Mass., Rikki Parsons and companion Scott Hadley of Norway and Courtney McPhearson and Mark of Bethel. Seven great grandchildren, Colleen Labbe and Nick of Minot, Shawn Murphy of Auburn, Reece Morin of Norway, Jacob and Miah Davenport of Georgetown, Mass., and Emma and Landon McPhearson of Bethel. And one great-great grandchild Ella Labbe of Minot whom we are all grateful she got to meet. She is also survived by her companion Leland Plumley of Norwich, Conn, and two very special friends, Nancy Bedard of Norway and Gail Alllenson (Allison) of West Paris.

She was predeceased by her daughter Pam Culbert Gross, a brother Richard Edmunds and her two fishing buddies, Leatrice Record and Maggie Green.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris for their care and compassion for June. It will never be forgotten.

In keeping with June’s wishes all services are at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Oxford Hills Funeral Services, 1037 Main St., Oxford. Online condolences may be shared with her family at http://www.oxfordhillsfuneralservices.com.
