Robert “Bob” Chappell

LEWISTON – Robert “Bob” Chappell, 90, passed away after a short illness at Central Maine Medical Center on Jan. 28, 2023. He was born Oct. 24, 1932, to Charles Sr. and Ellie (Lyford) Chappell in Livermore Falls.

Bob grew up, attended schools in Livermore Falls, and worked for his dad, Chick at Chappell’s Garage. Upon graduating from high school in 1951, Bob joined the United States Navy and was stationed at the US Naval Station, Newport, RI. He served aboard the USS Compton (DD-705) during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in July 1955 and was awarded the National Defense and Navy Occupation Service Medals. He was a life member of the US Naval Institute. Bob could fix anything mechanical and was employed at the International Paper Mill in Jay for 26 years as a millwright.

On July 6, 1957 Bob married Beverly Miller and they spent 66 years together on Bear Pond in Turner Maine. Bob enjoyed fishing and following his favorite sports teams the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

Bob was predeceased by his parents and siblings Anita Hunt, Madelyn Jones, Charles Chappell Jr, and Mary Turcotte.

Bob is survived by his wife Beverly, sister Nancy of Colorado, special sister-in- law Donna Mahoney Chappell of Naples, Fla., brother-in-law Reggie Turcotte and “ granddaughters” Meagan Maguire and partner Nigel Stevens and Carina Masterman. He also leaves behind special people, Glen Huntly, Richard Bray, “adopted children” Stacey and Brent Carter and Jeff and Cathy Chappell, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Bob requested no funeral services. A memorial gathering will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton in the spring. Arrangements are under the care of Albert & Burpee Funeral and Cremation Services in Lewiston Maine. Online condolences may be shared with the family at http://www.albert-burpee.com .
