Rangeley resident Nancy Ludwig is scheduled to be ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at Rangeley’s Church of the Good Shepherd, 2614 Main St.

The public is invited. The Rt. Rev. Thomas J. Brown, Tenth Bishop of Maine, will ordain Ludwig.

The service of ordination will include ancient prayers and music associated with ordinations for centuries, and will involve the participation of clergy from throughout the Maine and beyond, according to a news release from Robert Ludwig, parish administrator at Good Shepherd.

Ludwig was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, and attended St. Margaret’s Diocesan School for Girls. She received degrees in organ performance from The Curtis Institute and the Yale University School of Music. She has served various parishes, as well as the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Long Island and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bangor, as organist and choir director.

She completed the Foundations Program in Christian Theology at the George Mercer, Jr. Memorial School of Theology and was a co-mentor for the Education for Ministry program at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bangor.

Ludwig was ordained a transitional deacon by Bishop Brown last August, and anticipates continuing her ministry at Good Shepherd while also assisting other parishes in need of supply clergy.

The Rev. Lloyd A. Lewis, Canon Theologian to the Bishop of Long Island and Professor of New Testament Emeritus at Virginia Theological Seminary, will preach at the ordination. He was the first Black graduate of Saint Stephen’s School in Alexandria, Virginia, and was a classics scholar at Trinity College in Hartford before receiving a doctorate at Yale University.

A special choir is being formed to sing for the service, including singers from Good Shepherd Church, the Rangeley Community Chorus, St. John’s Episcopal Church Bangor, and Garden City, New York’s Cathedral of the Incarnation. The music will include 9th century plainsong, Gospel music classics, a Renaissance Latin motet and a piece newly composed especially for the ordination.
