BETHEL —The snow was fast, the sky clear and the middle schoolers raced their best at the 32nd Flying Moose Classic at the Bethel Inn on Sunday February 12th. Racing for Gould Academy Mallory Raymond double-poled her way to the finish line, winning the 3K race overall with 10:14.7.
Racing for Telstar the Smith sisters were cheered in with the ubiquitous cowbell and “Up! Up! Up!” one hears at Nordic races. Lillian finished 2nd (11:47.1) and Tess 3rd (13:00.7). Isla DeCato (14:14.9) and Osie Hedden (15:01.2) not the skiers to let up in the end propelled themselves to 5th and 8th.
Ceci Ross, in her first race of the season, skiing for Gould Academy finished 10th with a very respectable 16:33.9. For the boys, skiing for Telstar Reece Pierce did not disappoint, taking a page from Tom Brady’s playbook retired last race only to appear again in 2nd place with an 11:55.3.
Davon DeGruttola raced his way to 4th (14:03.3). More great races expected from the girls who will be teaming up to represent Maine March 4th and 5th at the Bill Koch League Festival in Craftsbury Vermont.
