FARMINGTON — Selectmen hired Cornell Knight to serve as interim Town Manager and he started Tuesday, Selectman Chairman Matthew Smith said Tuesday morning, Feb. 21.

Knight, of Carrabassett Valley has over 40 years experience in municipal government, will receive $650 per day through a contract with Eaton Peabody, Smith said.

Knight is part of Eaton Peabody Consulting Group in Augusta. In 2014 he was named Bar Harbor’s top municipal administrator. A Sun Journal article at that time indicated Knight had also served as town manager for Baileyville, Hallowell, Jay, Winthrop and Topsham.

Former Town Manager Christian Waller resigned unexpectedly on Feb. 6 to spend more time with his family. He was hired in 2021 to replace Town Manager Richard Davis who retired after 20 years on the job.

Last week Smith said Maine Municipal Association would be used for the new Town Manager search. The board will meet with MMA Monday, Feb. 27, to begin the process, he said Tuesday.
