To the Editor:
I want the community to know that Telstar High School students and staff did a stellar job with this year’s winter carnival. I have been to many school wide events such as these and I have rarely witnessed the inclusion, the camaraderie and class spirit displayed this week.
Juniors mentoring sophomores about school-appropriate cheering, freshmen encouraging all students to participate, and too many other examples to mention. The message of “Be Kind” was loud and clear and taken to heart by all.
Many people only hear about the things that go wrong in schools; however, the school and community should be very proud of the enthusiasm and school pride these students displayed this week.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
