100 Years Ago: 1923

A few days ago a little boy, who is accustomed to visiting the Auburn Engine House, Court St. came to make his regular visit. The small amount of clothing the lad was wearing was practically in rags. He was cold and dejected. His firemen friends, many of them bachelors, bundled the baby boy upstairs, gave him a warm bath so that his flesh glowed with warmth and then collected enough money from among themselves to purchase their admirer and friend a lot of new clothes. Having about 80 cents left over the men are figuring on getting the little man a pair of boots—that is after adding some more cash to the 80 cents.

50 Years Ago: 1973

The East Auburn Ladies Circle will have an all-day meeting, Tuesday, Feb 27th at the home of Mrs. Ali Laird, Elmwood Road, East Auburn. Members are to bring picnic lunches, as usual and the hostess will furnish beverages and dessert.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Kevin Child, a seventh-grader at Lewiston Middle School, won the city-level spelling bee held in Lewiston earlier this month. Child competed with 32 sixth-seventh-and eighth-graders from Lewiston public and parochial schools. Child, son of Susan Child of Lewiston, will compete in the Androscoggin County Spelling Bee scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Sugg Middle School, Lisbon Falls.
