Daphne “Honey” Cronin

PEPPERELL, Mass. – Daphne “Honey” Cronin passed away peacefully at age 86, surrounded by her family on Thursday Jan. 26, 2023.

She was born and grew up with her sister Jean in Rumford Maine, living between there and South Arm, Richardson Lake. Her parents ran Sunset Camps fishing and hunting camps. There she learned her love and appreciation for this magnificent area. Being from little money, she had to learn to hunt, fish and do whatever it took to get by.

But to her, it wasn’t a sacrifice – It was the beginning of a life-long passion. The setting also led to her many outdoor hobbies: She was a talented painter, a locally renowned wildflower expert, an avid native American artifact collector, a bird lover (especially loons), an avid collector and reader of anything to do with the history of the lakes. In her later years – It was a good book, picking berries, fishing, enjoying family and many friends at the lake, and cherishing the daily sunsets.

She was involved with many groups to preserve the land, wrote grants for outdoor infrastructure, and enjoyed working at the Andover Library.

She was married to Larry Cronin and raised two boys (James and Jeff) in Hudson, Mass.

She also leaves behind two daughters-in-law, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and greats, and cousin Mary.

In her retirement years, she lived in Andover Maine and at the camp. There was something to enjoy about all four seasons.

One of the few pioneers left from the early history of the lake, she will be sorely missed.

There will be no immediate services, a celebration of life will be held at the lake this summer. (Date TBD)

Donations can be made to the Andover Public Library in her name.
