Hannah Talon scored 18 of her 27 points in the fourth quarter as the University of New England women’s basketball team rallied from four-points down to beat Emmanuel 74-67 to win the Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament on Sunday in Standish.

The Monks improve to 23-5 and earn the conference’s automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament. It was the fourth straight meeting in the conference title game between the two teams, who have played for six of the last seven conference championship games. St. Joseph’s last conference championship was in 2018. Emmanuel ends the season 22-6.

The NCAA tournament bracket will be released on Monday.

Nina Howe added 14 points for St. Joseph’s, which trailed 51-47 at the start of the fourth quarter. Elisabeth Stapelfeld added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Angelica Hurley had eight points and 11 rebounds.

Yannie Chan scored 19 points, Desiree Robinson added 12 and Kiera Eubanks 11 for Emmanuel.

HAMILTON 71, COLBY 69: Conner Rood scored 22 points to lead the second-seeded Colonels (19-8) beat the Mules (20-7) in the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament championship game in Clinton, New York.

Hamilton earns the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament. The bracket will be released on Monday.

Hank Morgan added 15 points and Teja Singh had 14 for Hamilton.

Will King led Colby with 22 points and five rebounds. Lucas Green added 15 points.

BASEBALL

NORTHERN ILLINOIS 6, MAINE 3: Parker Shupe and Colin Summerhill had three hits and drove in two runs each as the Huskies (1-6) topped the Black Bears (2-4) in the final game of the Penn State Tourney in Cary, N.C.

Mason Kelly added a solo homer in the eighth inning for NIU.

Connor Goodman, Jeremiah Jenkins and Nick White each had an RBI for Maine. Gianni Gambardella took the loss in relief, allowing three earned runs on four hits in four innings. Noah Lewis started, allowing three runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out nine and walked two.

BATES 8, CHATHAM 4: Tyler Attal and Brandon Biggane both had two RBI as the Bobcats (3-0) finished their Florida trip unbeaten with a win over the Cougars (3-1) in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Winter Haven, Florida.

Dylan Azacarte opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second inning and Christopher Cimino logged an RBI on a pair of singles for Bates. John Tully picked up the win in three innings of relief and Sam Hough earned the save.

Caleb Lehman had two RBI for Chatham.

MEN’S LACROSSE

MAINE MARITIME 19, SOUTHERN MAINE 9: Jacob Hintermaier had five goals and an assist as the Mariners defeated the Huskies for the first time since 2001, in the season opener for both teams, in Gorham.

Sam Nichol added four goals for MMA. Trey Marcil scored three goals and Jayden Wilson had two goals and three assists.

Schuyler Wetmore led USM with two goals and two assists, Andrew James and Aman Zusner each scored twice.
