Edward Little’s Campbell Cassidy, St. Dominic Academy’s Miles Frenette and Lake Region/Fryeburg/Oxford Hills’ Owen Galligan are three of the nine semifinalists for this year’s Travis Roy Award, presented annually to the state’s most outstanding Class A senior boys hockey player.
The Maine Class A High School Hockey Coaches Association made the announcement of the semifinalists Friday. The finalists will be unveiled after next week’s Class A semifinal games, and the winner of the award will be announced at the Class A Hockey banquet in Auburn on March 18.
The other semifinalists are Bangor’s Michael McLean, Biddeford/Massabesic/Old Orchard Beach’s Jamie Sperlich, Falmouth’s Mitch Ham and Aaron Higgins, South Portland/Freeport/Waynflete’s Richie Gilboy and Thornton Academy’s Lucas Hubbard.
Frenette would be the fourth St. Dom’s player to win the award, after inaugural winner Brian Toussaint in 1996, Joey Dumais in 2001 and Richard Paradis in 2009. Edward Little has two previous winners, with Josh Benson winning in 2002 and Kyle Smith in 2004.
Cassidy’s older brother, Will, was a finalist for the award for Edward Little in 2021.
The Ice Cats of Lake Region/Fryeburg/Oxford Hills — Galligan attends Fryeburg Academy — have never had a player from the program win the award.
