Since November 2019 we have heard lies repeated by the former president, many Republicans, Fox News and other right wing sources that the election was stolen and rigged, and that votes were altered by Dominion voting machines.

Recently Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox, admitted that many of his talk shows knew what they said on the air were lies.

There is no proof of widespread voter fraud. In Arizona a report that was written after 10,000 hours of research showing no fraud that would have altered election results was buried by a Republican. Every recount in the country had results that did not change any of the outcomes.

In response to every study showing no significant voter fraud, Republicans have chosen to propose many laws that would make it more difficult to vote. In Maine they have proposed legislation to prohibit ballot drop boxes, require photo ID for in-person voting and voting by mail, and to prohibit ballot harvesting. There is no proof of illegal voting that would require any of these laws.

Because of these lies and the frequency with which they have been repeated, there is now a significant part of our population that believes our elections are fraudulent. Perhaps if all the politicians and talking heads who have perpetuated these lies admitted that there are no significant problems with our election system, people would again have faith in our system.

Republicans are trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist.
