Alice I. Gagnon
LEWISTON – Alice Irene Gagnon, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was a former resident of Shawmut Street and Webster Street and had been a resident of d’Youville Pavilion for the last four years.
She was born on Sept. 21, 1928, the only daughter of Valdor and Irene (Ayotte) Houle.
Alice attended Ave Maria Academy in Sabattus, graduated from St. Patrick’s Parochial School in 1944, and graduated from Edward Little High School class of 1948.
She married Roland Gagnon on May 30, 1949 at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn. They created beautiful memories for their families throughout their 69 years of marriage until Roland’s passing in 2018.
Alice was the rock of her family, raising all three children in her home and teaching them how to love, be compassionate for others, and lead a life filled with faith. As the children grew up, she then went to work for Casco Bank and Bank of America Operation Center, and enjoyed all the friendships she made there. She loved to go shopping, dining out, and especially loved being part of the Edward Little reunion committee. This brought her tremendous joy and held a special place in her heart for the enduring relationships that she fostered with lifelong friends.
Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family. She always looked forward to family gatherings where many laughs were shared. It was the ongoing joke that she was the self-proclaimed “boss,” but she always followed that with her memorable laugh. She loved to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren – playing games and attending school performances. When the great-grandchildren arrived, she cherished every moment that she could hold and rock them.
She is survived by her three children. Robert and wife Doreen (Parent) Gagnon, Ronald and wife Claire (Lessard) Gagnon of Lewiston, and Ann Marie (Gagnon) Neal and husband Jeffrey of Windham.
How she loved her four grandchildren! Ryan Gagnon and wife Devin (Hodgkins) of Lewiston, Sarah Gagnon and husband Dana Burbank of Gorham, Allison Gagnon and husband Martin Graef of Windham, and Lauren Neal of Windham. Needless to say, she was thrilled to be a great-grandmother to Carter and Charlotte, Evan and Jacob, Emma and Alivia.
The family wishes to thank the 4 West staff of d’Youville Pavilion for their care during their mother’s 4 year stay.
