Chase in Oxford results in arrest

OXFORD — On Thursday, March 2, officers from the Oxford Police Department observed a black GMC pickup truck with multiple inspection/registration violations on Skeetfield Road in Oxford.

The officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle but the operator, later identified as Dawson Bond, 20, of Oxford, refused to stop, according to Oxford Detective Brandon Correia. Bond began passing vehicles erratically in an attempt to elude the officers. Officers continued to pursue the vehicle, but Bond made multiple maneuvers to evade police, said Correia, and eventually turned into the parking lot of Ocean State Job Lot.

Bond then continued into the Goodwin’s Chevrolet parking lot where he re-entered Main Street and struck a passing motorist. Bond made no attempt to stop after the collision and continued Southbound on Main Street, operating in a reckless manner.

As the pursuit continued, Bond was approaching the Fore Street and Main Street intersection, where another officer had setup a roadblock to spike Bond’s vehicle in an attempt to stop the threat to the public.

Bond avoided the spikes and nearly collided with a tractor trailer unit before turning onto Fore Street. where he subsequently lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a driveway. He was apprehended by officers and taken to the Oxford County Jail where he was charged with the following:

• Eluding an Officer (Class C)

• Passing a Police Roadblock (Class C)

• Driving to Endanger (Class D)

• Violation of Bail (Class E)

• Operating after Suspension (Class E)

• Attaching False Plates (Class E)

• Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident (Class E)
