Lawrence Wilfred Langelier
LEWISTON – Lawrence Wilfred Langelier, better known as Larry, 96, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 4, 2023 in Naples, Fla.
Larry was born on July 29, 1926 to Joseph Langelier and Lucy (Tardiff) Langelier in Lewiston. In 1933 Larry met Maverine Bennet in first grade, and wed in 1948, going on to have three children, Craig, Steve, and Pamela.
Larry was a U.S. Army veteran who actively served in WWII in the Pacific Theater. With no formal business training and only an 8th grade education he worked hard with his wife and her brother, Gentry (Jump) Bennett to own and operate L&B Service Center on Main Street in Lewiston and L&B Heating Oil. He was known as the best carburetor and tune-up man in the county. He was also known for his hard work ethic, honesty and integrity, by all of his family, friends and customers.
After retiring in 1980, at the young age of 54, he had time to pursue his love of hobbies such as golf, fishing and hunting, boating, camping, motorcycle riding, snowmobiling and dirt-biking. Larry and Maverine bought a motorhome and traveled winters throughout the states for 14 years, then bought a home in Naples, Fla. and spent their winters there. In 2020 they moved to Naples full time to get out of the cold winters in Maine and to be closer to their oldest son Craig and his wife.
Larry was a loving and dedicated husband to Maverine, and up until his death he still held her hand and pledged his undying love for her. A simple touch of the lamp between their chairs was a signal that they needed to hold hands. They celebrated their 75th anniversary in January 2023.
Larry was preceded by Joseph, Lucy, Rudy, Pat, and Anita, and son Steve Langelier; brother-in-law Gentry Bennet and his wife Louise, and many other close friends and distant family members. Larry is survived by his sister Jenine Ashton; daughter, Pamela Toussaint and husband Donald Toussaint and their children, Jason and Chad Toussaint, and Amanda Greenfield, and wife Paulette; son, Craig Langelier and wife Pamela along with their children Buffei and husband David Kempster, and other daughter, Kristen Langelier; also their deceased son Steve Langelier’s children, Tyler Langelier and April Langelier, and April’s daughter Kloe Gizinski.
He will be forever missed and loved by his family and many friends. He was a good man.
