Richard Smith
LEWISTON – Richard Smith, 85, passed away at home on March 3, 2023. He was born in Lewiston April 4, 1937. He was the son of Joseph and Doris (Wike) Smith. Richard graduated from Edward Little High School with the class of 1955 and graduated from Bentley College. He also served in the Air National Guard. He married Joanna Bishop on June 11, 1960. Richard worked as an auditor for the State of Maine, and he and Joanna co-owned Kandi Kraft, located in Auburn. They purchased a camp on Lake Auburn which provided many years of fun and enjoyment, fishing, boating, and entertaining family and friends. He also loved a good joke. After retirement he worked as a literacy volunteer for Seniors Plus.
Richard was predeceased by Joanna (Bishop) Smith R.N., his wife of 54 years. He leaves behind four children, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren: Jennifer Munger and husband Bruce and their children Melody Johnson and husband Mason and their children Garrett and Savannah; Amanda Munger and husband Brian Wohl; Jeffrey Smith and wife Bobbie Jo; Kenneth Smith and wife Tina, and their daughter Allissa Sleeper and husband Tyler, and their son Ayden; Kimberly Martel and her (deceased) husband Maurice Jr. and their children Christopher Martel and wife Victoria, their children Emma, Abigail, and Collin; Ashley Martel and companion Jake Pinoski, and his children Kendra and Lily; and Brandon Martel. Visitation: Fortin Funeral Home 217 Turner St AUBURN, 783-8545. Sat. March 11, 2023 from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place in the family lot at Gracelawn Memorial Park in the Spring.
