A 15-year-old girl was taken by helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland after being struck by a vehicle in Sanford late Friday afternoon.
Sanford Fire and Police departments responded to the intersection of High Street and Island Avenue, where the girl had been stuck by a 2013 Hyundai Sonata around 5 p.m.
Firefighters extricated her from under the vehicle and she was transported by Lifeflight to Maine Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition Friday night, said Maj. Matthew Gagne of the Sanford police. Police did not identify the girl or the driver of the vehicle.
The driver remained at the scene and was interviewed by police.
The cause of the crash, which was reconstructed by a police reconstructionist from the York Police Department, is still under investigation.
