100 Years Ago: 1923

Miss Ethel Hinton, formerly of Sanford, gave two readings from the Bamberger store broadcasting radio station in Newark, N. J. this week. It was picked up by many local radio fans, who sent messages of congratulations and heard them acknowledged by radio 20 minutes later.

50 Years Ago: 1973

The Telephone Pioneers are planning a bus trip to the Flower show at Boston for March 18. It is one of several Spring activities planned at a monthly meeting of the Chester C. Stevens Council at a recent meeting in Norway. A Pioneer Night will be held on April 27 at the Stevens Mills Grange Hall and on June 17 the group will hold an outing at Sebasco Estates. The Council is contributing to the Blind Bowling State Championships and is hosting a banquet for members of the local bowling team for the visually handicapped. The April meeting will be held on the 12th at Lewiston. At the Norway meeting held in the town’s office, guests were John McGinnis, chapter vice president; Cathy Gilman, chapter member at large; and Barbara Blaisdell, Farmington. Joyce Crocker of Norway, a new member, was presented with her membership certificate.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Welcome Spring stories for young children will be presented by Judy D’Amour at 10 a.m. Saturday. Kids will make pussy willow pictures to take home.
