100 Years Ago: 1923

Donald B. MacMillan expects to get away early in June on his next Arctic expedition in the schooner Bowdoin, and may go as far as Etah in Greenland for a series of educational motion pictures. He said in a letter received today by George F. Cary, treasurer of the MacMillan Arctic Association. He is now in Michigan, and will return to New England early next month.

50 Years Ago: 1973

The Androscoggin County 4-H Dairy Club discussed plans for a special meeting to be held April 27 with the Kennebec and Oxford county chapters. James Copper, the New England program director of the Holstein Friesian Association of America, will be the speaker. Also discussed at the meeting, which was held at the home of Charles Bosworth in Auburn, was the county 4-H field day to be held June 2 and 3 at Livermore. The Dairy club is planning a special show as part of the program. The annual dairyman judging contest was discussed. Members are now participating in the national contest. Gerard Brigham and Maxine Lynch reported on their visit to the Oxford County Dairy Club meeting on nutrition.

25 Years Ago: 1998

The Spring Story Hour Program will begin Wednesday at Cumston Public Library in Monmouth. The hour, from 10 to 11 a.m., will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the craft being “Leprechauns.” FMI, call Lynn L. Howker, children’s services.
