WORCESTER, Mass. — Four area cheerleading teams wrapped up their seasons at the New England Spirit Championship on Saturday at Worcester State University.
Gray-New Gloucester earned the highest area finish at New Englands, taking fourth in Division 2 with a score of 150.8.
The Patriots’ high placing follows their Western Maine Conference title and regional runner-up and third-place finish at the Class B championships earlier in the postseason.
The New England Championship was divided into five divisions: Division 1-4, based on the sizes of the schools competing, and a Coed Division.
Oxford Hills, the Class A state champion, placed fifth in Division 1, earning a score of 172.3. Along with winning their first state title since 2000, the Vikings also claimed the Class A North and KVAC A titles this season.
Lewiston, which placed second at the Class A state championship last month, placed eighth at New Englands in the Coed Division. The Blue Devils’ score was 171.5.
Class C state champion Lisbon/St. Dominic placed ninth in Division 3 at the New England Championship with a score of 142.2. Lisbon/St. Dom’s, in its first season as a co-op, also won the Class C South regional title last month.
