Margaret “Peggy” Jean Murphy

BRUNSWICK – Margaret “Peggy”, who was born in Brunswick on March 11, 1948, also passed away on March 11, 2023. She was the daughter of Gerald E. Adams and Ruth E. (Crosman) Adams.

As a young child she travelled the country with her parents while her father served in the Army Air Force Reserves. She attended Bowdoin Elementary Schools and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1966. She later attended and graduated from Bliss College with a major in Business in 1968. She worked for the Brunswick School Department for a little over 38 years before officially retiring in December of 2008.

Peggy married the love of her life, Louis M. Murphy, Jr. on Nov. 14, 1970. Soon afterward they made their home on the Litchfield Road in Bowdoin and she lived there until May of 2021 where she moved to Avita of Brunswick.

Although Peggy never had children, she enjoyed the company of many nieces and nephews where she would treat them to overnight slumber parties, camping in the back yard, travel with them and their parents. She enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings for Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Labor Day as well as spontaneous poolside barbecues, where many relatives and neighbors would gather to enjoy a feast and share stories and sometimes get involved with craft projects. Peggy enjoyed knitting, crafting and shopping with family and friends.

As a couple, Peggy and her husband, enjoyed travelling where they would sometimes reunite with Louis’ friends from the Air Force, distant relatives or spent several winter vacations with friends at the local ski slopes.

Peggy is survived by her brothers Richard Adams and his wife Debra, Dana Adams and his wife Mary Ann. She is also survived by a very special aunt for whom she had a very close bond, Mary Staples of Brunswick. She also leaves, her nieces Christina Almy, Katherine Boynton, Lynn Adams, Sara Roy, and nephew, Johnathan Adams; as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews; and cousins.

Peggy was predeceased by an older brother, Gerald Jr.; her father, Gerald, mother, Ruth; and her husband, Louis.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Avita of Brunswick, Memory Care Community, as well as Chans Home Health and Hospice for their wonderful help and care of Peggy.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 24, at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, at Brackett Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the spring at South Bowdoin Cemetery.
