Normand Robert Heutz

LEWISTON – Normand Robert Heutz, 81, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Norm was born in Lewiston, Maine on Sept. 3, 1941, the son of Marthe Gardner and Bertrand Heutz. He attended Saint Joseph’s School in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School (’60). After high school, he earned his oil burner service technician certification and ultimately his master license. He worked all his life for Heutz Oil Company, founded by his parents, and later became the president and owner. He was a hard worker, dedicated to servicing his local community.

Norm married Claudette Daigle on Aug. 17, 1968, and lived in Lewiston where they raised their two children. Norm and Claudette were each other’s best friends. They enjoyed traveling, trips to the casino, Sunday drives, dining out, family gatherings, sugar parties in Lac-Mégantic, and playing board games with friends. As a dedicated father, he was always there to lend a hand or provide care and comfort to his children in any way he could.

His lifelong passion for fishing inspired trips with his father to the Eagle River in Labrador, Canada, and the Miramichi River in New Brunswick, Canada. Norm was particularly proud of the fourteen-pound Atlantic salmon he caught at Eagle River in 1972. One of his favorite places in Maine was his camp on Rangeley Lake, which he affectionately named Fish-A-Doo Haven. He spent countless days trolling in his Lund boat, always in anticipation of catching “the big one.” In the winter months, Norm’s interests turned to ice fishing and snowmobiling.

Retiring in 1999, Norm was able to devote much of his time attending his grandchildren’s various activities and boisterously cheering them on. Together with Claudette, he loved taking them on many adventures in Rangeley and other places throughout Maine. His grandchildren were undoubtedly his pride and joy. Most recently, he was looking forward to the upcoming birth of his first great-grandchild, due later this summer. Later in life, Norm relished “snowbirding” to Siesta Key, Fla., where he enjoyed watching seaside sunsets and relaxing in the warm, gulf breezes.

If you asked Norm what he treasured most in life, without hesitation he would have said his family. He loved sharing time with them and seemed to glow whenever he was surrounded by those most dear to him. Norm was a quiet man, not one for many words, but he always made you feel loved and cared for through his deeds and actions. He celebrated the achievements of his family as much, if not more, than his own. It gave him pleasure to see his family contented and happy and did whatever he could to ensure they were.

His family will fondly remember him for his good nature, quiet generosity, and humility. He added so much richness to their lives by sharing his love, time, and support. “BBL Norm,” we will forever miss your warm smile, funny phrases, and your kind heart.

Norm is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Claudette; son, John Heutz and fiancée Robin of Lewiston; and daughter, Sandra Heutz-Lee and husband Mark Lee of Lewiston. Five grandchildren: Daniel Heutz and wife Bevin of Portland; Audrey McCue and husband Ray of Cranston, R.I.; Anya Lee of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Eisa Lee of Fairfield, Conn.,; and Reed Heutz of Greene. A brother, Claude Heutz of Lewiston. Norm was predeceased by his parents.

The family invites you to a time of visitation on Thursday March 23, from 4-7 p.m., at the Fortin Group Funeral Home, 70 Horton St, LEWISTON. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday March 24, at 11 a.m., at Holy Family Church, 607 Sabattus St., Lewiston, followed by a committal service at St. Peters Cemetery on Deer Road, Lewiston.
